Earlier this year, several bills were introduced on Capitol Hill to regulate hedge funds. The Hedge Fund Association is actively working to educate lawmakers and engender a reasoned approach on behalf of all industry participants. Attendees at this event were able to gain insights from lobbyists, thought leaders and regulatory experts on the potential impact of pending legislation on the hedge fund industry.
This educational forum included a keynote speech by former SEC Chairman Harvey Pitt and a panel discussion with David R. Friedland President of Magnum U.S. Investments, Inc., Rinarisa Coronel De Fronze EVP of HedgeOp Compliance, Richard Heller Partner at Thompson Hine LLP, Ron S. Geffner Member of Sadis and Goldberg LLP, and moderated by Mitch Ackles CEO of Hedge Fund PR.
Based on the discussion, it seems apparent that new regulations and investor demand for transparency will force hedge funds to respond with institutional-level operational infrastructure and a clear focus on compliance and fiduciary responsibility.
